Water Resource Management

As part of the initiative, SEED built a range of water conservation structures including check dams, percolation tanks, farm ponds, rock-fill dams, dug-out ponds, and sunken ponds. These efforts significantly improved water availability for agriculture and enhanced groundwater recharge. Additionally, the project promoted horticulture, floriculture, bund plantations, farm bunding, and contour trenching to boost land productivity and soil health.

The project also focused on capacity building, offering training for farmers and women on micro-irrigation, organic farming, vermicomposting, and mulching. A major plantation drive resulted in the planting of 2,56,800 trees, while 96 families were supported in cultivating horticulture and floriculture crops. To further enrich the soil, tank silt application was introduced, particularly benefiting Dalit communities by enhancing soil depth and fertility.

• The outcomes of the project were transformative — 260 hectares of land were brought under cultivation, soil health improved, flood velocity was controlled, and groundwater levels rose. These achievements led to increased productivity and income for 456 families. The project also made a social impact by reducing seasonal migration, with 22 families returning to their villages due to better livelihood opportunities created through these interventions.
