World Environment Day was commemorated through a thoughtfully organized event led by SEED NGO, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Urban Biodiversity Forest Department and HMDA. The rapidly growing population of India, combined with accelerated urbanization, has intensified the occurrence of cyclones, severely affecting agriculture and the livelihoods of vulnerable rural and urban communities. Recognizing the urgent need to tackle these challenges, SEED initiated awareness efforts targeting local community-based organizations, such as farming groups, slum federations, youth organizations, women's self-help groups, and residential welfare associations. These initiatives, aligned with World Environment Day, were conducted in partnership with relevant departments, focusing on educating communities about plantation practices, as well as strategies for conserving and restoring natural resources in their local areas. The event, which attracted participants from the Hayathnagar GHMC areas of Rangareddy district, as well as the rural areas of Siddipet and Vikarabad districts, saw an enthusiastic turnout of around 150 citizens from each community. These participants actively engaged in discussions on climate change, environmental protection, and pollution reduction, particularly through the planting of more saplings. SEED also distributed between 1,000 to 2,000 plants annually to these communities as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability.
